One of my weaknesses has always been shoes and online shopping. There is nothing quite like finding the perfect shoe in my opinion, especially when I am sitting on my couch flipping through pages of dream shoes on my iPad. More often than not they end up being just a dream. As an expecting mom (seriously, she will be here any minute now) my budget is limited so I work hard to get the most bang for my buck. At the moment my feet are so swollen I can’t tell whether they grew during this pregnancy or if I will someday soon be back in some of my fabulous shoes that I miss so very much. Until then I am left browsing and waiting to find out what my new shoe size will be.
Over the past couple of years there has been a number of sites popping up that offer you either a monthly membership or a set price for all of the shoes on their site. Most of them change their selection each month and have style icons or experts that select their favorites of the month. For me this adds an entirely new level excitement, beyond the typical joy we all get of browsing through Zappos.com. I love anticipating the new shoes (and accessories and purses in most cases) that show up each month on some of these sites.
While the idea of spending $30-$60 on a pair of shoes, handbag or an accessory is not always my idea of budget friendly, I find many of the items on these sites have great designer details and things that make them unique enough to pay that price. One of my favorite things about fashion is the unexpected details. I am always in search of a unique item that I can design an outfit around. It’s these details that really sets someone that is stylish apart from someone that just has nice things.
I have only tried a couple these sites so far. I have had good luck with a couple of pairs of shoes from Sole Society. The material was quality and the shoes have held up well so far. My leopard pair of wedges from them in particular I have been dying to wear again. Although I will likely need to transition to some not so dangerous looking shoes since I will be toting around a new accessory, my daughter, I will always find a way to wear those wedges!
Since starting maternity leave this week I have found some time to sit around and watch the style network. I checked out a few episodes of Kimora Lee Simons’ new show about being the president and creative director for Just Fab. I have had some experience with Just Fab at the Lucky Fabb conference in September. While there were no free shoes involved (maybe I just couldn’t wait in line long enough to find out) I did get a bit of brand exposure which made me more curious when I came across the show in the Style network. I will have to get back to you if I decide to purchase anything from them in the future.
Another one I have tried in the past is Shoe Dazzle. They have some really cute styles and I was able to work with them for a short time to review some of their shoes. A couple pairs I still wear regularly after about 3 years. I did run into some trouble with a pair of flats when the heel came off. Nothing a little super glue couldn’t fix, however. The shoes I ended up with are made of plastic so if you are planning on getting a pair of pumps be prepared to have some sweaty feet most likely. Things seem to be on the upswing at Shoe Dazzle though, lots of new faces and I am considering trying out some of their new products after this baby arrives. I never got a chance to experience their hand bags or jewelry, if I do I will be sure to report back!
